Guided Mantario Canoe Trips

Castle RockJoin us! Spend five days this summer immersed in the wilderness. Whether you are an experienced back-country paddler or a complete beginner, our guided canoe trips are a great way to experience the incredible scenic beauty of the largest intact forest in the world.

Each trip begins on Monday with an exhilarating full day's paddle over 7 lakes and 6 portages, is followed by three days at a rustic island cabin with a blissful wood-fired sauna, and finishes up on Friday with a day's paddle back out. Canoes, paddles, safety equipment, food and accommodation are all provided.

Experienced instructors will help you learn canoeing techniques and basic wilderness skills. You will participate in all aspects of the experience, from route finding to washing dishes. Your enjoyment of nature will be enhanced by varied activities including hiking, exploring, fishing, refreshing swims and evening saunas.

Canoeists pause at the end of a portage.The spectacular surroundings offer unmatched opportunities for photography, astronomy, botany and wildlife observation. Wildflowers dot every patch of sunlit ground. Songbirds and waterfowl make the most of the short northern summer. 2010 Mantario Summer Program Weeks

July 5th to 9th - Swimming with Lesly Andrews & Jerry Zaste
After an inspiring paddle, you can swim across the bay. Walk the Circle Hike to take a dip in all of the lakes. Enjoy late night saunas and jumping off of the dock. Endless possibilities.

July 12th to 16th - Mantario Explorations with Charles Burchill
Come and explore the lakes and trails around Mantario. Paddle and hike around the wilderness, into places rarely seen. Work with a GPS, map and compass to find out where you are going and how to get back.

July 19th to 23rd- Paddle to the Forest with Charles Burchill
Come paddle to Mantario with Charles Burchill, botanist, canoeist, and naturalist. Explore the bogs and forests of the Canadian Shield, and learn about the plants of the Mantario wilderness Zone, or wild heritage.

July 26th to 30th-Discover Mantario with Lorne Klassen & Leigh Cullen
Identify plants & wildlife while hiking to Olive & Moosehead Lakes on the Circle Trail loop with experienced naturalists Lorne and Leigh. Also enjoy the rewards of doing some blueberry picking on the Mantario Trail.

August 2nd to 6th- Photography with Marcel Van Eerd
Enjoy the beautiful views of Mantario through your lens. Share stunning memories with your photos. Marcel offers pre- and post-trip workshops.

August 9th to 13th – Astronomy with Jennifer West
Learn to find your way among the constellations under the glorious Mantario Skies. Enjoy the Perseid meteor shower, which peaks on August 12th, and maybe even see some Aurora Borealis.

August 16th to 20th - Family Week with Gillian Brennan
Enjoy a fun-filled week for the entire family. Explore the wilderness, swim off of our dock, and see animals in their natural habitat. Roast marshmallows while listening to frogs sing and owls hoot. We will cater activities to participant’s ages and interests. A wild adventure for everyone!

August 23rd to 27th - Canoe Instruction with D. Kurt
Learn to paddle and portage more efficiently and safely, with an experienced Paddle Canada Certified Instructor. Achieve Flat Water Tandem certification while enjoying the trip. Join in nature walks, and berry/mushroom hunting.

August 30th to September 3 - Fun  and Fishing with Marc Leclair
The perfect combination – plenty of fresh air and exercise while
learning to bait a hook, cast a line and catch your own dinner.

Cost

Early-Bird Discount: Save $35 if you register prior to June 1st.
Cost Includes: All food, accommodation, canoes and guide services.

How do I Register?

To reserve: Print out the registration form (below in pdf format) and return it with your payment to Mantario Summer Program, Nature Manitoba, 401-63 Albert Street, Winnipeg, MB R3B 1G4

A $100 deposit will reserve your spot (full amount due two weeks prior to departure). Place your deposit before June 1st and receive a $35.00 early bird discount for adults and students. PLEASE NOTE: deposits are non-refundable.
